'Valuing People Now' made it clear that the views and wishes of people with learning disabilities must be taken into account when services are being commissioned, developed or evaluated.

The need to involve service users in a proactive, positive, real way was recognized by the Blackpool Learning Disability Partnership Board in 2002.

Self Advocacy What do we do
We run different groups accessed by Social Service users throughout the Blackpool area. Our larger group is the Service User Forum which has representatives from all of these sub-groups.

The Service User Forum elects two people to sit on the Learning Partnership Board, which takes part in planning and accounting for learning disability services. With support from Blackpool Advocacy, these representatives are equals on the board.

With Self Advocacy, people with learning disabilities have learnt that their voice is important, and how to get their voice heard.

O
ur service supports a program to involve service users choosing staff at all levels within the Learning Disability Services.
Self Advocacy Who Can Take Part
