Self Advocacy is the ability to speak up for yourself and the things that are important to you, meaning you are able to ask for what you need and want and tell people about your thoughts and feelings. It also means you know your rights and responsibilities, you speak up for your rights and you are able to make choices and decissions that affect your life.
What we do...
Empowerment provides Self Advocacy support for people with learning disabilities so that they can have a say in the planning, development and delivery of services.
We run different groups accessed by Social Service users throughout the Blackpool area. Our largest is the 'Speak Out Forum' which has representatives from all these groups. The Speak Out Forum elects two people to sit on the Learning Disability Partnership Board, which takes part in planning and accounting for learning disability services in Blackpool. With support from us these representatives are equals on the board.
Who can access the service?
Any adult involved in Blackpool Learning Disability Services can access the service.
